When Agencies Fight, Nothing Gets Done.

The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.

We focus this week on Kihei, Maui, where our Department of Education (DOE) has been trying to open a new $245 million high school primarily for Kihei. It’s called Kulanihakoi High School. It’s built, and has been built for some time, but it can’t open. Kids are on one side of Piilani Highway. The school is on the other side. Ten years ago, the Land Use Commission required the DOE to build an overpass or underpass.

To date, nothing of the sort has been built, and Maui County ordered that the school not open.

We go through the history of this project and how we are moving closer to a solution.
