ThinkTech Hawaii: The Intent to Veto List (Talking Tax)

Economic Downturn Might Have Saved us. The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.

Gov. Green recently released his Intent to Veto list. He started with line-item vetoes to the budget bill and then released a list of 11 bills. We discuss: the proposed first responders’ center; allocations to the Rainy Day Fund; proposed procurement exemptions for the Department of Education; the plan to monetize the State’s significant artwork.

Because of the forecast economic downturn, the Governor had an opportunity to, and did, chop off some of the moneys going to controversial programs and projects. It’s a leaner budget with less of the underlying tension. The Governor also got a chance to make a statement about transparency in procurement.
