IGNORANCE FURTHERS (Perseverance Helps)
Russell Hata is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Y. Hata & Co., Ltd., a kamaaina food service wholesale distributor founded by grandfather Yoichi Hata in Hilo in 1913, and incorporated in 1922.
More than five years ago, Russell helped set the company on its future path by restructuring the company and developing the vision that continues to guide the company today. Currently, Y. Hata is in the middle of a major expansion of its Wholesale Division facilities, and soon will be launching ChefZone. ChefZone, to be housed in a new 45,000 square foot facility close to Honolulu International Airport, will be not only a one-stop cash and carry wholesale club for food service businesses and organizations, but also will have an Entrée-preneurship Center that aims to help food service operators learn to run their businesses more efficiently and economically, as well as how to market themselves. Assistance will include menu development, food costing, graphic design, and website development.
So what does it take to be successful in turning around a business in our local environment? How can a business take an ambitious vision such as ChefZone from scratch paper to implementation? And, more importantly, why in the world would someone with his schedule regularly show up at the Tax Foundation of Hawaii’s 2014 legislative briefings in person? Russell will be touching upon these and other topics in what promises to be an informative and insightful presentation.
