Benjamin J. Cayetano, served as the first man of Filipino descent to serve as Governor of Hawaii from 1994-2002. Graduating from UCLA in 1968 and Loyola School of Law in 1971, Mr. Cayetano began his career at the Hawaii Housing Authority in 1972 before joining the Hawaii State Legislature in 1974 where he served two terms in the House of Representatives and two terms in the State Senate. In 1986 Mr. Cayetano was elected to the post of Lieutenant Governor where he initiated eduation reform and streamline election laws. As governor of Hawaii, Mr. Cayetano fostered economic growth during times of recession and post 9/11 as well continuing to reform the Hawaii’s public schools by increasing teacher salaries and building schools. Governor Cayetano is now retired after more than 28 years of public service. |
